“Mum’s the Word”
Day 130, #2026bigyearproject
Any time I imagined my future, I thought I would like to have a strong marriage, healthy kids, and a fulfilling career. I left the details to be filled in later.
Well, I must admit that reality surpassed my dreams.
The cast of characters who have entered my life has been stellar! They have amazing personalities and traits that I did not think of requesting. Here we all are, living our best life with shenanigans-a-plenty.
None of the books I pored over while I was expecting could have shown me all the surprises, pitfalls, triumphs, serene moments, and utterly joyous times to come. If they had, I might not have believed them.
It’s good that legends and fables don’t give away all the secrets of parenthood. The prospect might seem too daunting for the faint of heart. Thank God I have a husband who has been by my side through all these adventures.
I went into the role of mom with an eager, open heart. My husband and I longed for the child we had created together. Our families were enthusiastic that a new soul was joining our family. When she arrived, the fanfare was instantaneous. As I was wheeled out of the operating room with our little girl in my arms, applause greeted her. The hospital staff said they had never seen anything like that before. It was a wild way to launch this new season of our lives.
Today we will celebrate this day with a family lunch. We look forward to spending time with our daughter and son-in-law. Their company lifts my spirits. They make me laugh, see things with fresh eyes, and remember why I am grateful to know them.
For all of you who influence(d) the lives of children, I give a big cheer. Thank you for preparing future generations. May we continue to raise each other to greater heights.
More than anything, I appreciate the extraordinary one who made me a mom.
